We know to some of you this decision may be unexpected, and we’re sad to share this news, but this was a shift our team felt we needed to make.” #Does insurgency sandstorm have a campaign fullAt this moment it’s more important to us that we deliver a full multiplayer and coop experience that improves on Insurgency one that is true to our style and what we feel we do best. The story was a very exciting and new opportunity for us as a team, but we felt we had to make a choice. This is due to its high production requirements and our commitment to deliver to our fans in 2018. To start, the single player and cooperative story has been canceled for release, and will be considered again at a later date. “As a team we have decided to make some shifts in the direction of Insurgency: Sandstorm. Unfortunately, in order to ensure such a high level of polish, the story campaign had to be put on the back burner: Speaking in a lengthy blog post on New World Interactive’s website, Insurgency: Sandstorm’s lead game designer Michael Tsarouhas broke the bad news regarding the story campaign, stating that the development team’s number one priority is ensuring the core Sandstorm experience is as polished as possible for the game’s launch. Sadly, due to New World Interactive’s need to refocus its efforts to ensure a smooth launch, the story campaign has now been put on an indefinite hiatus, though there's a possibility it could be added into the game at a later date. Insurgency: Sandstorm is heading to PC, PS4, and Xbox One at some point in 2018.Insurgency: Sandstorm, the upcoming third entry in developer New World Interactive’s hyper-realistic first-person shooter series, was originally going to differentiate itself by featuring a story campaign which could be played as either a single-player or co-op experience. We're not sure if we're going to explore it again, we're going to figure that out after release. "We recently had to make the decision to announce that we had to cancel the single-player for release. One thing that we didn't know going into the interview was that the single-player campaign promised last year has been cut loose. It's still Insurgency, we just have bigger maps, but we're maintaining the scale of the combat." It's not like Battlefield which is obviously more large-scale and, you know, more arcadier. Our game is still absolutely about combat at like close to medium, sometimes long range. "It's still Insurgency, the vehicles we're adding are light vehicles - they're like trucks with guns on them - but it's purely supplemental. But other than that, it's just really about like, we have this experience that we like, and why wouldn't people on consoles enjoy playing it."ĭuring the interview, Tsarouhas tries to give newcomers a firmer idea as to where Insurgency sits on the spectrum of shooters, with Battlefield comparisons inevitable given the addition of vehicles in Sandstorm. The gameplay is the same, the only thing that's going to change and make it work for consoles obviously the input, the control, and the UI, we wanna make sure people can navigate it. "It's still just as lethal, it's still just as hardcore or tactical or whatever adjective you want to use. #Does insurgency sandstorm have a campaign seriesNow the series is coming to consoles in the form of Insurgency: Sandstorm, a sequel where the game has been rebuilt from the ground up, with new visuals and bullet physics possible thanks to a switch from Source to UE4.ĭuring What's Next in Paris, an event where Focus Home Interactive shows off its latest wares, we caught up with lead game designer Michael Tsarouhas, who talked us through the changes they're making for this follow-up.ĭespite the move to console, "we're not changing the experience, the gameplay is the same," Tsarouhas told us. #Does insurgency sandstorm have a campaign PcInsurgency was a decent shooter for PC that, thanks to extended support over a number of years, thrived on the platform.
